RABBIT PROOF FENCE

RABBIT PROOF FENCE

Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, Coober Pedy, South Australia

The rabbit proof fence was constructed between 1901-1907, with the intention of keeping rabbits and other agricultural pests out of Western Australian crops and pasturelands. Upon completion, it stretched 3,256km and represented a rather unique, albeit inadequate, response to an overwhelming environmental problem from introduced species in Australia.
