LOST CONNECTION

Eucla, Western Australia

This old jetty supplied goods to the residents of Eucla, a town, which in its heyday (1890), had Australia’s largest outback telegraph station. Ghostly ruins of the abandoned town - partly buried by drifting sand dunes - are all that remain of the station. The partial survival of this 150m long timber jetty is attested to the unusually low wave energy along this section of the Great Australian Bight.
