LIFE UNDERGROUND

Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, South Australia

Most people who come to Coober Pedy - a tough remote town in the middle of Australia - are more interested in what’s underground (Opals) than what’s on top of it. The Breakaways was the name given to this area by the European settlers, meant to capture the visual impression you get when you arrive. These large colourful mountains rise up out of the desert, breaking away to celebrate their vibrancy amongst the dry and desolate.
