Izu, Japan
Standing on a sea wall smack-bang in the middle of typhoon season in Japan - it’s not a moment I can easily forget. The wind was howling and I had to put my entire body weight on the tripod just to try and keep the camera steady for this long exposure. These little islands - scattered along the Izu peninsula - are what drew me to this part of Japan. Seemingly inhospitable rocky outcrops of volcanic ash and lava play home to tiny trees that manage to remain a picture of stillness and calm against a violent sea.
